With the 2018 Yokanga season on the horizon, we wanted to
bring you the latest news from the river.
Our Russian camp manager, Pasha, has recently returned from
a visit to Yokanga Lodge and the good news is that it appears to be a “normal”
winter in Russia. Snow levels are currently in the 70-90cm range and the ice on
the river in the 30-40cm range, if anything both measures are a little less
than average.
The Yokanga offers one of the very best chances anywhere to
land an Atlantic salmon of a lifetime. A normal season would see in the region
of 130 salmon over 20lbs logged in the record book to around 100 rods, of which
around 10% of those are approaching or over 30lbs. There are few if any rivers
that can offer those odds and many Yokanga visitors have caught their largest
salmon with us.
Prospects for the Yokanga 2018 season, running from 2nd
June to 18th August, certainly look hopeful. We look forward to
seeing you there.
